Help Us Keep A Special Needs Dog With Their Furever Family
Throughout the course of an average year, we have hundreds of dogs on our Canine Assistance, Resource and Empowerment (C.A.R.E.) Kit program in Western Massachusetts. C.A.R.E. Kits are customized packages of dog food and treats delivered directly to elderly, veteran, disabled and unhoused pet families. They can also include equipment like leashes, collars, harnesses, crates, pee pads and more. C.A.R.E. Kits also include vaccinations, spay/neuter assistance, microchips and some vet care as funds allow.
To be eligible for a C.A.R.E. Kit, recipients must be home-bound or have no transportation and/or have a dog requiring a limited ingredient diet prescribed by a vet.
C.A.R.E. Kits serve the dogs who are the most at-risk of surrender - those who do not have the means to visit a pet food pantry and cannot afford prescription food for their dog.
Our current special needs dogs available for sponsorship:
Blue is an elderly pittie living in Springfield with his disabled hooman Carl. Blue depends on daily medication to keep his serious allergies under control. Carl is one of Kane's Krusade's most dedicated Family Krew members - assisting with transporting, organizing and inventory of donations as well as fundraising and the packing of C.A.R.E. Kits.
Boots is a 20 year old Chihuahua living in Springfield MA with his disabled hooman Pablo and another dog in the pet family. Boots is living with a Grade 4 heart murmur requiring numerous daily cardiac medications. In addition, his condition requires an ultrasound every 6 months to monitor the medications effectiveness. Blind in one eye, Pablo is elderly and still works part time to make ends meet.
Chi Chi is a senior pittie living with her disabled hooman Maria. Maria treats Chi Chi like her child, often taking care of her dog's needs before her own. Chi Chi is a cancer survivor living with severe allergies that require daily allergy medication, a prescription diet and regular exams.
Lucy Loo is a young pittie found as a stray down south. She was emaciated and her eyes were so infected that they had to be removed. Lucy Loo was transported up north and adopted out 3 times and returned 3 times. Her hooman Kathy (a disabled senior living on a fixed income) opened her heart and her home to this special dog and needs support with dog training and vet care.
Luna Lovegood is a 9 year old Jack Russell Terrier. She has a thyroid condition that has caused her to lose her fur. She also has skin allergies which make her suffer from itchy skin. With thyroid medication and allergy shots, Luna's fur is growing back and she is much more comfortable. Luna's hooman pays half of the monthly medication costs and your sponsorship will empower us to cover the other half, making sure this cutie gets the ongoing care she needs.
Moose is a hound mix with a debilitating skin condition which requires allergy medication, a limited ingredient diet and regular vet exams to monitor his condition. His hooman Jessica is disabled.
Rocky is a 9 year old Chihuahua living with kidney disease. His hooman is a retired senior living on a fixed income. Peggy contributes $20 a month towards Rocky's prescription food and we cover the balance so these two can stay together.
Rubey is an elderly pittie living in Holyoke MA with her elderly hooman Judy. Judy's son discovered Rubey abandoned in a crate in the basement of a house with no food or water. Rubey has a number of health issues including hip and joint pain from living in a crate. She also has skin allergies requiring a limited ingredient diet.
Send a unique and memorable gift: When you make your donation in Tribute or Honor of someone, we will send an email to your recipient notifying them of the difference you are making in their honor.
Your donation has three times the impact:
- it helps the dog(s) in the pet family get the food, equipment and vet care they need
- it helps the people in the pet family keep their loved one -- for many, their dog is the only companion they have and vital to their mental and physical wellbeing
- it keeps another dog out of the overburdened shelter system, saving valuable resources for other animals and caregivers
What makes us different: We created the Pet Family Advocacy model and are the only animal nonprofit in Western MA providing services to homebound, disabled, veterans and elderly directly in their homes. We don't shelter dogs, we keep loved dogs with their furever families. We are often the last line of defense for dogs at risk of being surrendered to a shelter.
Please note: if funds are no longer needed for a particular sponsor dog, Kane's Krusade will apply any remaining sponsorship funds to another dog with the greatest need.
